Update

I'm still here! I'm still here! This illness has knocked me on my behind but I am finally able to workout again tomorrow. Woohoo! Haven't fallen of the wagon, actually J and I have found ourselves thoroughly rooted in it, due to our increasing health and fitness. And it is with a united front we will face southern tradition and cuisine next week and for 19 days thereafter.

I am armed with truth, conviction, results, products (a low carb toolkit to take of: almond flour, pro powder, fiber fit, 85% cocoa bars, coconut oil, lavash, hunts jello cups, and stevia) oh and black soybeans to create my fav dish Dad's chili!

I will tell you, J cracks me up piling bacon and hotdogs or stack of burgers and cheese onto a tiny piece of lavash or lettuce leaves! This man LOVES meat and the freedom to enjoy gobs of butter and cream. I LOVE it! His tastes have changed like mine and he recognizes how bad the carb foods make him feel. Sugar tastes to sweet, bread feels awful in the mouth, etc etc. He has even taken notice of how his body feels after ingesting his fav 'health food' fresh juiced carrots and apples and rarely partakes or even wants it bought. He is even eating my pro powder, cream, ricotta cheese, flax breakfast 'gruel' his fav is with lemon added, it tastes like a lemon cream pie or something. So our house is full of joy and health and freedom from addictions!

So unlike last time, I may be quiet for a bit, esp with Leave and moving coming up, but I am still here rooting for and thinking of all of you!

Oh, nearly forgot...where has my bG been? Well I am still on 3u Lantus AM and PM and 1/2u Novolog at breakfast, and 1u of N at lunch and dinner, and the three Met, 1 chromium, 1 Vit D, and my multi vitamin. Despite the illness I have been able to keep bG in the 90's. Today it has started to drop to low so I am going to back off the Lantus a unit tomorrow AM as I think my body is almost healed from sickness. And this morning I weighed 205.6! Smallest I have been since Sept 2004!

Much love to you all!

Success!

Finally accepted it! And I am also down to 3u Lantus AM/PM! WOW! My workouts, the 30 minutes of Gilad and 45 minutes or so of walking burn about 364 calories a day. I am eating 1400 calories, 8-12-12 carbs, 80gish protein, with 72% of the diet being fat. I have lost just shy of 3lb in 4 days.

I hear many people, almost daily, say that this is a high protein diet. It is not it is high fat (this is our energy), low carb, and moderate protein.

TIP FOR THE DAY:
How do I know all of this so handily? I use FitDay
a free online program that lets you keep track of diet, nutrition information, weight changes, activities, a journal, and tracks them in graphed reports! This really keeps me on track and shows my progress, very encouraging. I use it to calculate the nutrition info of a meal or individual food. And if I take an empty log from the next day I can compile all the ingredients to a recipe and calculate that info as well. It also allows you to enter custom foods, so if you eat the same combos frequently, or create a new recipe you can log them in or add unusual items that are not already on the list.

Is This Success?

Working backwards today:
87,76,72,76,78,83,86,86,68,83fbg

I checked frequently because we took a long walk, washed/waxed the jeep, etc. and it was just a smidge low, I prefer 83.

This is on 30m weightlifting/calisthenics and 20-40 minutes walking a day.
Very close to 6-12-12, meals 4-5hours apart
4u Lantus AM and PM and 1u Novolog before each meal
1) 500mg Met at each meal

I am reducing the Lantus dose for tonight and in the morning to 3u.... and see what happens, if my fBg is good then I will try 1/2u Novolog before each meal.

This looks good to me. But I wonder if I should be trying to regulate without the Novolog at all. My intention is to closely mimic what my body is supposed to be doing as possible. Seems, in the back of my head, like it is 'cheating' to use the Novolog and I should change something else instead of using it pre-meal. But I think lowering my basal insulin of Lantus, according to everything I have read, would be the best. Part of me doubts that I understand it all correctly. Maybe I just can't believe I have temporarily arrived at where I need to be

Birthday Lesson

So I wanted something a little special for my Birthday. I had been wishing for the creamy garlic sauce veggie pizzas from Papa Murphy's. I got online to see what was on it and how I could turn it low-carb and put on a Joseph's Lavash. I discovered their DeLite pizzas,at only 12-13 carbs per slice. I gave into temptation. We went and got it and I ate the toppings off of two and then two slices..... way to many carbs. I took 3u Novolog to cover it. You know what? I have been so used to 'pure foods' this tasted like junk. I can see why I ate so much of it in past because there was nothing wholesome, nutritious or filling about it. Here I have overmaxed past the 12 carb Supper limit, and I feel gross, my tummy hurts, and I feel empty and hungry. Not satisfied at all. That is actually a wonderful Birthday present! The roast beef sandwich I had for lunch today with horseradish sauce, sauteed peppers, and swiss cheese on grilled Lavash was DELICIOUS, full of flavor and filling nutrition and energy. What a contrast. A very positive way to launch into this new year!

30 and loving it!

Been a while since my last post. What has changed? Weight loss. Another size lost. Just turned 30. And the big news?

I went to Dr Thomas on Wednesday. She prescribed Novolog so I can cover meals. I was wanting to back down the Lantus doses which are 5u AM/PM because during the da I go to low, but if I take less I go to high. Now I can mimic my body's natural insulin response. I have started taking just 1u of Novolog before a meal and have been able to keep my numbers in the 90's! I am excited by this and look forward to gaining more good health this way.

Bad news is she called to say Thursday that she change her mind, she doesn't think I have a thyroid issue based on the last test. She left that on the machine and I have yet to find out what the numbers were....... But my last one showed my TSH rising from the first of 07. I know I have a thyroid issue and I am above the 3.0 that many endos say should be treated. So no Synthroid or Armour, I am at a loss and very very worried.

I turn 30 today and it snowed! It has been in the 60's and 70's! There is about 4" on the ground now. The poor trees look odd with big balls of snow caught in there almost full leaves.

Went to Ebeneezer's tonight, an Irish pub. Lots of tempting glorious rye bread and potatoes any way you could think of. Jason had a Frog which is a sourdough hoagie filled with fired chicken, mozzarella sticks, cheeses, Irish fries, and who knows what else all smooshed together. It made him very sick as he has been low carb for two months now..... I did not have clinistix and no one could tell me for certain that there was or was not sugars in the creamed cabbage so I passed on the Irish Reuben I really wanted (I brought a bit of Lavash) and had the cheese omelet instead. They even brought out the sides with it as J said he would eat them, but instead of a separate plate there was a pile of hashbrowns and a thick slice of that rye I love!!!! I scooted the browns over, disgusted that there sugary starches got near my omelet and rolled up a napkin to put between them and my eggs, and J put the rye on his plate. I enjoyed the eggs and soft butter smeared on the lavash and my ice water. My first restaurant trip in a while, and the first with previous temptations. It was fun and I did not crave the temptations like I thought. Didn't even consider eating any. Nor did I even care!

I feel healthier and happier in my new 30's then I did in any of my 20's! It took over 10 years to diagnose and start to heal my diabetes. I am looking forward to life!
